If you love a good story, then look no further. Oxford Children's Classics bring together the most unforgettable stories ever told. They're books to treasure and return to again and again. Stolen from his life of luxury, Buck finds himself in the frozen Yukon Territory as part of a team of sledge dogs. Half-starved and cruelly treated, Buck must endure hardship beyond anything he's experienced before. And through it all, he hears the call of wild beckoning him — playing on his most primitive animal instincts.

The Sea-Wolf and Selected Stories

2013
Impressed into service aboard the seal-hunting Ghost, Humphrey Van Weyden becomes an unwilling participant in a tense shipboard drama. With a wary eye, he watches the vessel’s abusive captain, Wolf Larsen, an enigma who can abandon two sailors on the open water, then return to reading the moral philosophers. One of the best sea novels ever written, The Sea-Wolf tells of mutiny, shipwreck, and a desperate confrontation. Also in this volume, “The Law of Life”, “The One Thousand Dozen”, “All Gold Canyon”, and “Moon-Face” offer more riveting action and adventure. In these tales, London’s descriptions of the natives, the northern dogs, and even the tundra capture the essence of the exuberant life he experienced firsthand.

White Fang: Activity Book (v. 2)
London Jack
Classic Stories which have been carefully graded for each level according to vocabulary, grammatical structures, sentence length and plot complexity. The ideal springboard for the development of learner‘s reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The story begins before the three-quarters wolf-dog hybrid is born, with two men and their sled dog team on a journey to deliver a coffin to a remote town named Fort McGurry in the higher area of the Yukon Territory, Canada. The men, Bill and Henry, are stalked by a large pack of starving wolves over the course of several days. Finally, after all of their dogs and Bill have been eaten, four more teams find Henry trying to escape from the wolves; the wolf pack scatters when they hear the large group of people coming. The story then follows the pack, which has been robbed of its last prey. When the pack finally manages to bring down a moose, the famine is ended; they eventually split up, and the story now follows a she-wolf and her mate, One Eye.

The Classic Works of Jack London
London Jack
,
2014
From White Fang to The Iron Heel, The Call of the Wild to The People of the Abyss, London's novels are intense and atmospheric, and deserve their standing and reputation as some of the most exciting adventure stories ever put to paper. Jack London was highly qualified to be one of the 20th century's greatest writers of adventure stories, for he was one of its greatest adventurers. He was, to name but a few of his many occupations, an oyster pirate, government patrolman, seal hunter, gold prospector, war correspondent, landowner and tramp. From his vast and varied life experiences he drew inspiration for over fifty books in a literary career spanning only seventeen years. His work is remarkable, vivid and exciting, much like the author himself. From The Call of the Wild and White Fang, which rank as two of the best dog stories ever written, to the sea-based The Sea-Wolf and the social critiques of The People of the Abyss and The Iron Heel, Jack London's variety of work, not to mention the sheer quality, place him at the forefront of 20th century classic fiction.

HarperCollins is proud to present its new range of best-loved, essential classics. 'Fear urged him to go back, but growth drove him on...' Set in the frozen forests of the Yukon Territory, Canada, during the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890s, 'White Fang' tells the story of a young wolf-dog's journey from the wild into human territory. As White Fang learns that civilisation is every bit as vicious and violent as nature — and that survival is only awarded to the fittest — we too see how instinct, sensation and emotion drive every one of us. Published in 1906 to wide and instant acclaim, this is a remarkable and moving look at the timeless relationship between man and dog.

The Call Of The Wilde and White Fang

Presented together in one volume, here are two of the greatest and most popular animal stories ever written. Even to designate them 'animal stories' seems to undervalue them since these tremendous works are so much more than mere children's tales. The Call of the Wild tells how Buck, a domestic dog, is kidnapped from California to pull sleds in the Arctic wastes. In the second story, White Fang, three-quarter wolf and one-quarter dog, endures considerable suffering in the Arctic before being taken to live in California. The two narratives are remarkable for the vividness of their descriptions and the success with which London imagines life from a non-human perspective.
