Ansel Adams in Color
Ansel Adams
,
2009
Adams began to photograph in colour in the mid-1930s. He did significant personal or 'creative' photography in colour and his distinctive visualisation of a scene and technical mastery is immediately evident in these photographs. Overall, he made nearly 3,500 colour images, but only a small fraction have ever been published. Adams thought seriously about publishing his colour images but the task was not accomplished during his lifetime. The Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust — with advice and counsel from John Szarkowski, former Director of Photography at New York's Museum of Modern Art; David Travis, Curator of Photographs at the Art Institute of Chicago and James Enyeart, former Director of the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House--asked the distinguished master photographer Harry Callahan to select the best of Adams' colour work for publication in this book.

Let it Bleed
Ethan A. Russell
,
2009
LET IT BLEED takes you where no Rolling Stones book has before. Author and photographer Ethan Russell was one of only sixteen people — including the Rolling Stones — who made up the 1969 tour. He was with them in their hotel rooms, at rehearsals, and on stage. He tells the story of this monumental and historic tour firsthand, including recollections from band members, crew, security, and other sixties icons — like Abbie Hoffman and Little Richard — they met along the way. And he also includes amazing photos of the performers who toured with the Stones that year: the legendary Tina Turner and B. B. King. Through vivid quotes taken from his interviews with the band and crew, and through more than 220 revealing photographs, Russell takes you behind the scenes for an uncensored look inside the Rolling Stones' world at the end of the sixties. It was an idealistic time, with an overarching belief that music could bring us all together. But the events that led to the terrible violence and stabbing death at Altamont would change rock and roll forever.

Readers will be surprised to find that many of his most memorable characters — the girl at the mirror, the young couple on prom night, the family on vacation-were friends and neighbors who served as his amateur models.

The Historian
Elizabeth Kostova
,
2008
Breathtakingly suspenseful and beautifully written, The Historian is the story of a young woman plunged into a labyrinth where the secrets of her family's past connect to an inconceivable evil: the dark fifteenth — century reign of Vlad the Impaler and a time-defying pact that may have kept his awful work alive through the ages. The search for the truth becomes an adventure of monumental proportions, taking us from monasteries and dusty libraries to the capitals of Eastern Europe — in a feat of storytelling so rich, so hypnotic, so exciting that it has enthralled readers around the world. Never was a ghost story so casually erudite, nor a historical travelogue such gripping entertainment. Impossible to resist...Kostova blends fact and fantasy to remind us that the original Dracula legend is rooted in monstrous acts of unblinking evil. A richly told story about family and the dark side of human nature...This cry of the heart will appeal to readers beyond those who are drawn by a fascaination with the legend of Dracula. Genuinely terrifying. Nearly impossible to put down once you crack the spine...It won't take you long to get to the end.
