Около 200 писем Антона, более 300 — Александра, и купюры в них восстановлены. Переписка братьев, длившаяся с 1875-го по 1904 год, запечатлела период жизни Чеховых, который остался за пределами мемуаров, относящихся главным образом к таганрогскому детству и отрочеству братьев.
