As I Walked Out One Evening: Songs, Ballads, Limericks
Auden W.H.
,
1995
W. H. Auden once defined light verse as the kind that is written by poets who are democratically in tune with their audience and whose language is straightforward and close to general speech. Given that definition, the 123 poems in this collection all qualify; they are as accessible as popular songs yet have the wisdom and profundity of the greatest poetry. As I Walked Out One Evening contains some of Auden's most memorable verse: «Now Through the Night's Caressing Grip», «Lullaby: Lay your Sleeping Head, My Love», «Under Which Lyre», and «Funeral Blues». Alongside them are less familiar poems, including seventeen that have never before appeared in book form. Here, among toasts, ballads, limericks, and even a foxtrot, are «Song: The Chimney Sweepers», a jaunty evocation of love, and the hilarious satire «Letter to Lord Byron.» By turns lyrical, tender, sardonic, courtly, and risque, As I Walked Out One Evening is Auden at his most irresistible and affecting.

Frankenstein
Shelley Mary
,
2011

Cat in the hat Knows a Lot About Christmas
Dr.Zeuss
,
2013
This rhymed retelling of the hit PBS Kids holiday special The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Christmas! is bound to become a cherished keepsake. Written in a style reminiscent of Clement Moore's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, the book retells the story from the Cat's Christmas Eve Party through his various mishaps while attempting to return young reindeer Ralph home in time to pull Santa's sled. Along the way, readers are introduced to a herd of elephants with an uncanny ability to smell water; a pod of dolphins who can communicate across far distances; and a single-minded army of Christmas Island crabs — all of whom demonstrate how working together is the best way to solve a problem, and how being home for the holidays is the best place to be. A perfect gift for fans of the hit PBS Kids TV show The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! — and an ideal choice for reading aloud — this is a book the whole family can enjoy together!

A Spot of Bother
Haddon Mark
,
2007
George Hall is an unobtrusive man. A little distant, perhaps, a little cautious, not quite at ease with the emotional demands of fatherhood or of manly bonhomie. The secret of contentment, George felt, lay in ignoring many things completely. Some things in life cant be ignored, however: his tempestuous daughter Katies deeply inappropriate boyfriend Ray, for instance, or the sudden appearance of a red circular rash on his hip. At 57, George is settling down to a comfortable retirement, building a shed in his garden and enjoying the freedom to be alone when he wants. But then he runs into a spot of bother. That red circular rash on his hip: George convinces himself its skin cancer. And the deeply inappropriate Ray? Katie announces he will become her second husband. The planning for these frowned-upon nuptials proves a great inconvenience to Georges wife, Jean, who is carrying on a late-life affair with her husbands ex-colleague. The Halls do not approve of Ray, for vague reasons summed up by their son Jamies observation that Ray has stranglers hands. Jamie himself has his own problems — his tidy and pleasant life comes apart when he fails to invite his lover, Tony, to Katies wedding. And Katie, a woman whose ferocious temper once led to the maiming of a carjacker, cant decide if she loves Ray, or loves the wonderful way he has with her son Jacob. Unnoticed in the uproar, George quietly begins to go mad. The way these damaged people fall apart — and come together — as a family is the true subject of Haddons hilarious and disturbing portrait of a dignified man trying to go insane politely.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
Williams S.
The dark side could not seduce him. The Empire could not control him. Death could not defeat him. And now, nothing can stop him from seizing his destiny. As apprentice to Darth Vader, Starkiller was mercilessly schooled in the ways of the dark side and groomed for the ultimate Sith power play: assassination of the Emperor. He served without question, killed without remorse, and lost his heart without warning to beautiful Imperial fighter pilot Juno Eclipse, never suspecting that he was just a tool in the schemes of his masters—until it was too late to escape their lethal betrayal. Juno mourned Starkiller as dead, but now he is back, purged of all memories and programmed to kill—and this time, Darth Vader is determined not to lose his assassin. As fate brings Juno and Starkiller closer to reuniting, they will both have to make a stand. The prize could be freedom. The punishment for failing will be eternal enslavement to the dark side of the Force.
