Raising Steam
Pratchett Terry
,
2014
To the consternation of the patrician, Lord Vetinari, a new invention has arrived in Ankh-Morpork — a great clanging monster of a machine that harnesses the power of all of the elements: earth, air, fire and water. This being Ankh-Morpork, it's soon drawing astonished crowds, some of whom caught the zeitgeist early and arrive armed with notepads and very sensible rainwear. Moist von Lipwig is not a man who enjoys hard work — as master of the Post Office, the Mint and the Royal Bank his input is, of course, vital... but largely dependent on words, which are fortunately not very heavy and don't always need greasing. However, he does enjoy being alive, which makes a new job offer from Vetinari hard to refuse... Steam is rising over Discworld, driven by Mister Simnel, the man wi' t'flat cap and sliding rule who has an interesting arrangement with the sine and cosine. Moist will have to grapple with gallons of grease, goblins, a fat controller with a history of throwing employees down the stairs and some very angry dwarfs if he's going to stop it all going off the rails...

The Art of Discworld
Pratchett Terry
,
2005
The Discworld: a world bursting with magic, a land of contrasts and extremes that floats through space on the backs of four elephants standing on a giant turtle. In the bustling metropolis of Ankh-Morpork, the oldest city on the Disc, you can find every luxury and perversion known to man or dwarf- and a fair few yet to be properly invented; in the ancient empire of Klatch there are fifteen words for assassination. The kingdom of Lancre may be small, but in this case size definitely isn't everything; in the dark country of Uberwald, things do go bump in the night. The inhabitants of Discworld are even more unforgettable than the places. There are witches and wizards — Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick (now a Queen, of course), and those in training (willingly or otherwise): Agnes Nitt, Tiffany Aching; Archchancellor Mustrum Ridcully, the Librarian, Rincewind, the Bursar: all play their part. There are great heroes, like Cohen the Barbarian and his Silver Horde, Sam Vimes, Captain Carrot and the men of the City Watch... and there are the ordinary folk like Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler, Foul Ole Ron, the Igors. And there's Death, and his increasingly extended family. The Discworld might have started out in the imagination of its Creator, Terry Pratchett, but over the past 30 or more books, it has taken on a life of its own. Here, artist Paul Kidby, steered by the author's words, takes his own voyage through the Disc, revealing, in glorious colour and intricate black and white, the cornucopia of characters that have won the hearts of millions of adoring readers the world over.

The Truth
Pratchett Terry
,
2001
The hero of «The Truth» is William de Worde, disenfranchised member of the wealthy — and arrogant — nobility. William earns a meager living selling highly specialized «news letters» to selected subscribers. With the belated advent of moveable type, business picks up rapidly, and William finds himself manning the helm of a revolutionary publication: «The Ankh-Morpork Times», whose erroneously typeset motto is «The Truth Shall Make You Fret». It shall, indeed.

The Last Hero: Discworld Fable
Pratchett Terry

Cohen the Barbarian. He's been a legend in his own lifetime. He can remember the good old days of high adventure, when being a Hero meant one didn't have to worry about aching backs and lawyers and civilization. But these days, he can't always remember just where he put his teeth... So now, with his ancient (yet still trusty) sword and new walking stick in hand, Cohen gathers a group of his old — very old — friends to embark on one final quest. He's going to climb the highest mountain of Discworld and meet the gods. It's time the Last Hero in the world returns what the first hero stole.

»Death has to happen. That’s what bein’ alive is all about. You’re alive, and then you’re dead. It can’t just stop happening.» But it can. And it has. So what happens after death is now less of a philosophical question than a question of actual reality. On the disc, as here, they need Death. If Death doesn’t come for you, then what are you supposed to do in the meantime? You can’t have the undead wandering about like lost souls. There’s no telling what might happen, particularly when they discover that life really is only for the living.

Guards! Guards!
Pratchett Terry
,
2001
This is where the dragons went. They lie...not dead, not asleep, but...dormant. And although the space they occupy isn't like normal space, nevertheless they are packed in tightly. They could put you in mind of a can of sardines, if you thought sardines were huge and scaly. And presumably, somewhere, there's a key... «Guards! Guards!» is the eighth «Discworld» novel — and after this, dragons will never be the same again!

Pyramids

2001
Being trained by the Assassin's Guild in Ankh-Morpork did not fit Teppic for the task assigned to him by fate. He inherited the throne of the desert kingdom of Djelibeybi rather earlier than he expected (his father wasn't too happy about it either), but that was only the beginning of his problems... «Pyramids» (the book of going forth) is the seventh Discworld novel — and the most outrageously funny to date.

Sourcery

There was an eighth son of an eighth son. He was, quite naturally, a wizard. And there it should have ended. However (for reasons we'd better not go into), he had seven sons. And then he had an eighth son...a wizard squared...a source of magic... a Sourcerer. «Sourcery» sees the return of Rincewind and the luggage as the Discworld faces its greatest — and funniest — challenge yet.

Feet of Clay
Pratchett Terry
,
2004
It's murder in Discworld! — which ordinarily is no big deal. But what bothers Watch Commander Sir Sam Vimes is that the unusual deaths of three elderly Ankh-Morporkians do not bear the clean, efficient marks of the Assassins' Guild. An apparent lack of any motive is also quite troubling. All Vimes has are some tracks of white clay and more of those bothersome «clue» things that only serve to muck up an investigation. The anger of a fearful populace is already being dangerously channeled toward the city's small community of golems — the mindless, absurdly industrious creatures of baked clay who can occasionally be found toiling in the city's factories. And certain highly placed personages are using the unrest as an excuse to resurrect a monarchy — which would be bad enough even if the «king» they were grooming wasn't as empty-headed as your typical animated pottery.

So hop on board for another delightful and hilarious jaunt through Discworld with Terry Pratchett.

With them on his side, Eric's in for a ride through space and time that is bound to make him wish that he'd never been born.

Monstrous Regiment
Pratchett Terry
,
2003
War has broken out again on Terry Pratchett's Discworld and, to no one's surprise, it is started by the small, insufferably arrogant, ferociously patriotic duchy of Borogravia, which prides itself on its ability to beat up on its neighbors even for the tiniest imagined slight. But the country is rapidly running out of young men to carry on the fight, so Sergeant Jackrum is inclined not to notice when Polly Perks dons her brother's clothes, stuffs a pair of socks down her pants, and enlists in the hopes of finding her missing brother. With no training, «Oliver» Perks is sent off with a regiment that includes a vampire (off the blood), a werewolf, and an Igor — very handy for stitching legs and such back on.
