The Shaping of Middle-Earth
Tolkien J.R.R.
,
2002
The fourth volume that contains the early myths and legends which led to the writing of Tolkiens epic tale of war, «The Silmarillion». In this fourth volume of «The History of Middle-earth», the shaping of the chronological and geographical structure of the legends of Middle-earth and Valinor is spread before us. We are introduced to the hitherto unknown Ambarkanta or Shape of the World, the only account ever given of the nature of the imagined Universe, ccompanied by maps and diagrams of the world before and after the cataclyusms of «The War of the Gods» and the «Downfall of Numenor». The first map of Beleriend is also reproduced and discussed. In «The Annals of Valinor» and «The Annals of Beleriend» we are shown how the chronology of the First Age was moulded: and the tale is told of Aelfwine, the Englishman who voyaged into the True West and came to Tol Eressea, Lonely Isle, where he learned the ancient history of Elves and Men. Also included are the original Silmarillion of 1926, and the Quenta Noldorinwa of 1930 — the only version of the myths and legends of the First Age that J. R. R. Tolkien completed to their end.

The Book of Lost Tales (part 1)
Tolkien J.R.R.
,
1991
The first of a two-book set that contains the early myths and legends which led to the writing of Tolkien's epic tale of war, «The Silmarillion». «The Book of Lost Tales» stands at the beginning of the entire conception of Middle-earth and Valinor for the Tales were the first form of the myths and legends that came to be called «The Silmarillion». Embedded in English legend and English association, they are set in the narrative frame of a great westward voyage over the Ocean by a mariner named Eriol to the lonely Isle where the Elves dwelt; from them he learned their true history, the «Lost Tales of Elfinesse». In the Tales are found the earliest accounts of Gods and Elves, Dwarves, Balrogs and Orcs; of the Silmarils and the Two Trees of Valinor; of the geography and cosmology of Tolkien's invented world. This series of fascinating books has now been repackaged to complement the distinctive and classic style of the 'black cover' A-format paperbacks of «The Hobbit», «The Lord of the Rings», «The Silmarillion» and «Unfinished Tales».

The Lays of Beleriand
Tolkien J.R.R.

2002
The third volume that contains the early myths and legends which led to the writing of Tolkiens epic tale of war, «The Silmarillion». This, the third volume of «The History of Middle-earth», gives us a priviledged insight into the creation of the mythology of Middle-earth, through the alliterative verse tales of two of the most crucial stories in Tolkiens world — those of Turien and Luthien. The first of the poems is the unpublished «Lay of The Children of Hurin», narrating on a grand scale the tragedy of Turin Turambar. The second is the moving «Lay of Leithian», the chief source of the tale of Beren and Luthien in «The Silmarillion», telling of the Quest of the Silmaril and the encounter with Morgoth in his subterranean fortress. Accompanying the poems are commentaries on the evolution of the history of the Elder Days. Also included is the notable criticism of «The Lay of The Leithian» by CS Lewis, who read the poem in 1929.

Morgoth's Ring
Tolkien J.R.R.
,
2002
The first of two companion volumes which documents the later writing of «The Silmarillion», Tolkiens epic tale of war. After the «The Lord of the Rings» was at last achieved, J. R. R. Tolkien turned his attention once again to the «Matter of the Elder Days». The text of the «Annals of Aman», the «Blessed Land in the far West», is given in full; while in writings hitherto unknown is seen the nature of the problems that Tolkien explored in his later years, as new and radical ideas, portending upheaval in the old narratives, emerged at the heart of the mythology, and as the destinies of Men and Elves, mortals and immortals, ecame of central significance, together with a vastly enlarged perception of the evil of Melkor, the «Shadow upon Arda». The second part of this history of the later Silmarillion is concerned with developments in the legends of Beleriand after the completion of «The Lord of the Rings».

The War of the Jewels
Tolkien J.R.R.

2002
The second of two companion volumes which documents the later writing of «The Silmarillion», Tolkiens epic tale of war. In «The War of the Jewels» Christopher Tolkien takes up his account of the later history of «The Silmarillion» from the point where it was left in Morgoths Ring. The story now returns to Middle-earth, and the ruinous conflict of the High Elves and the Men who were their allies with the power fothe Dark Lord. With the publication in this book of all J.R.R. Tolkiens later narrative writing concerned with the last centuries of the First Age, the long history of «The Silmarillion», from its beginning in «The Book of Lost Tales», is completed; and the enigmatic state of the work at his death can be understood. This book contains the full text of the Grey Annals, the primary record of «The War of the Jewels», and a major story of Middle-earth now published for the first time: the tale of the disaster that overtook the forest people of Brethil when Hurin the Steadfast came among them after his release from long years of captivity in Angband, the fortress of Morgoth.

Contemporary Exhibit Design: No. 2
Pegler Martin M.
,
2006
Trade show exhibits must do more than simply provide an environment for product presentation. The total design must sell both the brand name and the brand image of the exhibiting firm. Consequently, commercial and trade show exhibits are more than mere merchandise showcases. Contemporary Exhibit Design No. 2 features over 80 unique and diverse exhibits brought to life in over 250 beautifully-reproduced color photos. These exhibits reflect the best work of top exhibit designers. Many are prize-winning exhibits selected from trade show venues from across the U.S. and around the world. The book is organized by exhibit square footage commencing with 300 sq. ft and graduating up to 45,000 sq. ft. The exhibits arc represent a plethora of industries running the gamut of clothing, sporting goods, automobiles, computers and electronics, home and building supplies, entertainment, insurance, banking, and many others. Whenever possible, exteriors and interiors are presented to ensure the reader appreciates the design and space utilization...and can sec how these specialized designers have used signage, color, lights, animation and decorative props to make their exhibits «shopper-stoppers» in the world of Show and Sell. Also included is a section on exhibits that appear in museums and corporate offices/headquarters where the main thrust is not to «sell» a product but to provide information, knowledge or background material that will eventually lead tobetter brand acceptance. Showcased are installations in museums, corporate offices, and «good will» examples by company's taking advantage of some moment in time or local event.

The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun
Tolkien J.R.R.
,
2009
The world first publication of a previously unknown work by J.R.R. Tolkien, which tells the epic story of the Norse hero, Sigurd, the dragon-slayer, the revenge of his wife, Gudrun, and the Fall of the Nibelungs. Many years ago, J.R.R. Tolkien composed his own version, now published for the first time, of the great legend of Northern antiquity, in two closely related poems to which he gave the titles «The New Lay of the Volsungs» and «The New Lay of Gudrun». In the Lay of the Volsungs is told the ancestry of the great hero Sigurd, the slayer of Fafnir most celebrated of dragons, whose treasure he took for his own; of his awakening of the Valkyrie Brynhild who slept surrounded by a wall of fire, and of their betrothal; and of his coming to the court of the great princes who were named the Niflungs (or Nibelungs), with whom he entered into blood-brotherhood. In that court there sprang great love but also great hate, brought about by the power of the enchantress, mother of the Niflungs, skilled in the arts of magic, of shape-changing and potions of forgetfulness. In scenes of dramatic intensity, of confusion of identity, thwarted passion, jealousy and bitter strife, the tragedy of Sigurd and Brynhild, of Gunnar the Niflung and Gudrun his sister, mounts to its end in the murder of Sigurd at the hands of his blood-brothers, the suicide of Brynhild, and the despair of Gudrun. In the Lay of Gudrun her fate after the death of Sigurd is told, her marriage against her will to the mighty Atli, ruler of the Huns (the Attila of history), his murder of her brothers the Niflung lords, and her hideous revenge. Deriving his version primarily from his close study of the ancient poetry of Norway and Iceland known as the Poetic Edda (and where no old poetry exists, from the later prose work the Volsunga Saga), J.R.R. Tolkien employed a verse-form of short stanzas whose lines embody in English the exacting alliterative rhythms and the concentrated energy of the poems of the Edda.

The Children of Hurin (Box Set) (количество томов: 3)
Tolkien J.R.R.
,
2008
Available for the first time as a set, this boxed collection of paperbacks includes «The Silmarillion», «Unfinished Tales» and the international number one besteller, «The Children of Hurin». It is a legendary time long before «The Lord of the Rings», and «Morgoth, the first Dark Lord», dwells in the vast fortress of Angband in the North; and within the shadow of the fear of Angband, and the war waged by Morgoth against the Elves, the fates of Turin and his sister Nianor will be tragically entwined. Their brief and passionate lives are dominated by the elemental hatred that Morgoth bears them as the children of Hurin, the man who dared to defy him to his face. Against them Morgoth sends his most formidable servant, Glaurung, a powerful spirit in the form of a huge wingless dragon of fire, in an attempt to fulfil the curse of Morgoth, and destroy the children of Hurin. Begun by J.R.R. Tolkien at the end of the First World War, «The Children of Hurin» became the dominant story in his later work on Middle-earth. But he could not bring it to a final and finished form. In this book Christopher Tolkien has constructed, after long study of the manuscripts, a coherent narrative without any editorial invention.
